Puma the Rockbiter

I was in Boston this weekend for Jed's wedding, and ended up getting a full cycle- wedding, memorial for an amazing high school teacher, and two new babies... wow.

In addition, I finally managed to get Puma on video doing her crazy rock thing. This was actually a rather small rock- the last time I was in town, she fetched the better part of a cinder block out of Spy Pond.

Enjoy!

Wallets! Now on Etsy...

Proof

I've gotten a few comments on my last posting, and this along with the exhortation of some of my friends has lead me to open an Etsy account. I'll be purging my growing collection of wallets on this site, as welling as selling some other odds & ends that I make occasionally.

So if you're bored, and your wallet's looking a little worse for wear, come check out my Etsy store and support my habit by getting yourself an awesome new cash holding accessory!

Wallets!

So... While engaged in my as yet unsuccessful search for a job, I've found it necessary at times to be productive in a more visible, tactile manner. So from the same rescued from the street corner sewing machine that brought you the Turk, I am now proud to present to you... wallets. So many wallets.
What started out as a failed shopping trip to replace my no longer functional previous money-grip, became first an experiment in sewing technique, and then segued into an obsession. With some help from Ben I've probably made somewhere upwards of 30 wallets in the past few weeks.
Last weekend I had a table at the Mission Indie-Mart, Where I sold my first two wallets. Many thanks to Tim and Laurie for their helpful suggestions, and I must give credit for the second and final sale to Laurie and Wendi. Doesn't look like a great way to pay the rent, but it certainly was a good time.

The Turk™

This is an Ottoman I made this week, after spending the better part of the Dolphin vs Unicorn party last weekend in Heidi and Andy's bedroom looking at their book, "Home-made Modern". The plans looked so easy, so I jotted down a couple of notes on a post-it, and put it in my wallet for safe-keeping- you know, so I could wait for a few weeks before starting... or at least a few days. I started on Monday, by cutting the upholstery foam and gluing it to my wooden base. On Wednesday, I did the sewing of the cover and then put together the cushion. Yesterday I finished the staining/painting of the legs and brackets. Today, when I get home from my mid-term in American Government, I'll be resting my legs comfortably on The Turk™!

AIH Show

Cameron Bird Signed My Phone!

I took Jodi to an Architecture in Helsinki show tonight. Alls I'm gonna say is that it was pretty awesome, and certainly totally worth the current state of my legs and ears. Plus my otherwise fairly stupid cell fone just jumped up a peg in the cultural ephemera world with it's new signature. Someday it'll be retired to a spot in the curio next to my one Yuan bill signed by Nick "Mao" Zammuto of The Books. The future looks brighter already...

Now it just needs everything else!

The latest (though actually not really that late) step in the progress of Cassie's ever-evolving-towards-some-semblance-of-done-ness bike frame. She's been calling it "the Doomsday Device", but I originally named it "the Weenie Whacker" in honor of one of her co-workers' resistance to the idea of a light, aggressive, steel bike.

The Dove in the BB shell was the end result of the purchase of a jeweler's saw from Otto Frei (yet another store where vast amounts of $ can be squandered on things that you never knew existed, but now can't live without). It took about 3 hours and 6 or 7 saw blades all in all. Now I've got to figure out the cable routing... Perhaps Cassie wants a single-speed?
